The most frequent questions asked on Music Row, or anywhere Music USA is:
- How do I get a recording deal with a major label? Well your chances of getting a recording contract with a major label in Nashville or anywhere Music USA are about as good as winning the lotto or your uncle dying and leaving you millions.
- You have to "pay your dues, crawl before you walk." Spend some time with reputable people here in Nashville.
- Make a 3 song demo. A quality demo made with a reputable Nashville Producer. This is not an over night demo. Or even one made in a week. This could take several months.
- A demo session is going to cost you $4,000.00 or more. Remember you have to pay for musicians, studio time, an engineer and a producer.
- A Master Session is different. A Nashville producer can charge you upwards of $12,500 for a 3 song demo. An award winning Nashville Producer for a Master Session currently producing major label acts is going to charge you $35,000 for a Master Session on 3 songs.
- An average producer for a Master Session will cost around $12,500 to $18,500.
- To get started, you are required to send your producer a 50% deposit to his banking institution. It is called a deposit against the total.
- Why do you have to send money proir to recording a demo? Once you are serious about doing business then you will need to send a deposit so that the producer can draw up a contract up with all the details of your production deal.
- Anything lower then a 50% deposit must be negotiated ahead of time.
- Want your song on the radio? Between the producer, the artist, and/or the management team, a specific song needs to be selected to use as a single at radio. If people can't hear you on radio how can they buy your album, join your fan club, or even know you exit? Then you need to hire a group of independent radio promoters.
- Individual radio promoters call radio stations each and every day to request the program director and/or music director to play your single on the airwaves. These promoters work different territories and regions, thus the reason for hiring mutiple promoters.
- Each radio promotion company will charge $3,500 for the life of the single, which is normaly about 4 months.
- Why do I need Publicity and Promotions? Out of sight, out of mind! You need someone to create a buzz of what is going on with your career and your record.
- A publicist can help build and create your career steps. Think about this...photo's, press kits, logo creations, reviews, industry relations, etc., all of this is done with a publicist.
- Would you rather walk on Music Row or Walmart and nobody know who you are? Would you like people to start recognizing you? Then this is money well spent.
Sound expensive. It's not cheap. I know what your thinking. I can't afford it! That is a common problem. Most artists/musicians are barely making it. Either way you are going to need about $15,000 to get started and then don't get any stars in your eyes.
That is just the beginning. There is pictures, a press kit and promotion. A product to create, a bus to lease, and equipment. A tour to set up, and a manager to hire, an accountant and an entertainment law firm. Others like roadies, drivers, scheduling, tour support, video producers, directors,,,,,the list never ends. If this discourages you the please don't come to Nashville. You have to be the type of person that is not overwhelemed by your dream.
Don't think that you are going to come to any of the music capitols and compete with major label acts. Get ready to spend some serious money if you want to capture the attention of a manager, record label or entertainment law firm. Becoming a star is not cheap!
By now all of the "wanna be's" have become discouraged. So are you really serious about your career? If your desire to sing and write songs is so overwhelming that you can't stand to do anything else, then contact ROLDAN WEBSTER we will spend time with you and help you.
